Teacher Evaluation Part II
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Participants will learn to apply knowledge of instruction, curriculum, supervision and legal procedures to plan teacher growth, address performance concerns and meet individual needs. The course will examine practices of supervising and evaluating low-performing teachers and teachers newly hired in the district in light of teaching strategies that promote high student achievement and with regard to fiscal constraints, collective bargaining agreements, state and federal laws and other factors significant in the supervisory process.

Instructional Practices That Maximize Student Achievement: for Teachers,by Teachers (also called “The Green Book Course”)
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A practical compilation of best practices and proven techniques designed to improve the achievement of all students. Theory and practice for “effective effort,” differentiated teaching strategies, questioning methods, assessment of student learning, classroom management and brain-based teaching techniques are provided by a master teacher.

Math Boot Camp, Year II
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will stress mathematical
content, both computational fluency and conceptual understanding; instructional
strategies and lesson development. The overall goals for this course are to
improve the participants’ mathematical understandings and increase their
knowledge in areas of priority determined by NMRSD. Teachers will work in
grade-level teams. Dr. Chen will teach for the five full days.
AUDIENCE: K-9
teachers including both new enrollees and those who have taken Boot Camp I in
2008.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: What teachers need to know to make their department, team, or PLC successful. Topics include lesson study, data analysis, action planning, leading challenging groups, and why PLCs have improved student achievement when implemented effectively.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course will address communication with parents, meeting the needs of all students, classroom management, routines, and standards-based practices.
AUDIENCE: Teachers*
who are new to the district or who are just beginning their teaching career.

can determine the appropriateness of this course for teachers new to the
district.

Integrating Web 2.0 Tools into the Classroom.
COURSE
DESCRIPTION: The "new" internet, now called Web 2.0 or the Read/Write Web, is
characterized by open communication, freedom to share and re-use content,and
dynamic interactivity among users around the globe. A multitude of web-based
tools are available that allow people to organize their favorite bookmarks,
write online documents, and share information with others. These tools can be
used to impact teaching and learning positively. Participants will learn to
collaborate and communicate and build knowledge communities that are not
dependent on time and space. This course will provide teachers with an
overview of new internet technology tools including Blogs, Podcasting, Wikis,
RSS Skype, YouTube, TeacherTube, and more.
